Simpler Safer Health Care
AutoFile®
Laboratory Sample Storage and Retrieval
There are four main functions in the AutoFile system:

Clicking on any cell shows the sample number and, if removed, the comments associated with the removal.
- System Resources Set Up
- Sample Storage
- Sample Query
- Reports
System Resource Set Up
You can define your own shelves, locations, rack type and racks to reflect the physical
storage of your current system. An example is, sample 71532 is stored at the Pathology
Laboratory, on the top shelf, in a rack of 10 rows by 10 columns, that will be expired in
10 days.
Sample Storage
Scanning or entering sample identification numbers automatically assigns samples to the
next available storage position in a graphical display.
Clicking on any cell shows the sample number and, if removed, the comments associated with the removal.
Sample Query
Entering a sample identification number in the Query mode gives the location of every sample
matching that number. If the sample has been removed, it will show the comment associated
with the removal. It is also possible to remove the samples at this point, either
singly or in a batch.
Reports
Two types of reports can be generated at any time in AutoFile: expired rack and removed samples.
Every rack that has expired is included in the "Expired Rack" report, along with the racks'
expiry dates, status (empty, partially filled or full), and location. You can empty all the
expired rack at this stage. Every sample removed shows a comment entered at the time of removal,
helping to track the location of removed samples. There is an option to return the sample
if desired.
