BloodTrack® Enquiry
Blood Status and Nursing Workflow Tool
BloodTrack Enquiry Benefits
The Enquiry system improves patient safety and nursing efficiency at the bedside by:
- Reduces telephone calls to the Blood Bank enquiring about blood units
- Eliminates time wasted finding the location of blood units
- Increases patient safety by printing a barcoded pick-up slip for use with BloodTrack Courier
- Electronically records the fate of blood units
- Electronically records the arrival of blood units
- Reduces bedside paper work and transcription errors
- Establishes an electronic audit trail for some blood transfusion events
- Helps manage nursing workflow by displaying the colour coded status of ongoing blood transfusions
BloodTrack Enquiry Provides Blood Unit Status and Location
Using BloodTrack Enquiry, nurses no longer need to call the blood bank enquiring about the
status of a patient's blood unit. By simply typing in the patient's name or selecting them
from a list, the status of a patient's blood can be determined whether issued, available,
arrived or returned to stock. When used in conjunction with
BloodTrack Courier, Enquiry will also be able to tell the nurse the exact location of
the blood whether in the issue fridge, the OR fridge or the fridge down the hall. The nurse
can then print a barcoded pick-up slip containing the patient information for use with
BloodTrack Courier to ensure the right blood
is removed for the right patient.
BloodTrack Enquiry Transfusion Dashboard
When used in conjunction with BloodTrack
Tx, BloodTrack Enquiry can display the status of
a patient's blood transfusion in real time. Enquiry can provide
colour coded alerts, reminding nurses to:
- Begin the transfusion (because the blood arrived 15 minutes ago)
- Record 15 minute vitals (because it's been 15 minutes since the transfusion was started)
- Record the end of the transfusion (because it's been more than 3 hours since the transfusion was started)
BloodTrack Enquiry Includes AutoFate
BloodTrack Enquiry includes all the functionality of
BloodTrack AutoFate. Allowing nurses to time
and date stamp the arrival of blood units or record the final
disposition of a blood unit to electronically confirm whether
or not it was indeed transfused to the proper patient.
This information is sent to the BloodTrack database for audit
trail purposes as well as sent to the Blood Establishment Computer
System (BECS or LIS)
The information recorded includes:
- Caregiver and device ID of each interaction
- Arrival time of the blood unit on the ward
- Blood unit fate including donation number and status (transfused, destroyed, spiked, aborted)
BloodTrack Enquiry is Easy to Use
Using an optional barcode scanner, inputting blood bag information
for arrivals and fate-of-units is as easy as scanning one barcode.
Patient and blood unit status enquiries
require minimal data entry or simply selecting from a list and
the transfusion dashboard is coded to enable quick recognition
of items that require immediate attention.
