Simpler Safer Health Care

BloodTrack® HemoSafe
Blood Management Beyond the Blood Bank

The BloodTrack HemoSafe has capacity for 150 blood units, each in it's own individual compartment. When allocated or unallocated blood is loaded, HemoSafe automatically keeps track of each blood unit location so it can be dispensed safely and accurately.
Stocking the HemoSafe
  1. Identify the user - Every user of BloodTrack HemoSafe will have an identification code; usually a barcode attached to their identification badge. Simply put the badge under the scanner to log in.
  2. Choose In or Out - To place the units in the refrigerator, touch the "IN" picture.
  3. Scan Blood Units - Now pass the blood units under the barcode scanner. The scanner will read the donation number, the product type and the expiry date.
  4. Put the Units In - HemoSafe will automatically open one compartment for the blood unit. Don't worry, HemoSafe keeps track of where the blood unit is at all times.
Remotely Allocating and Removing Blood from the HemoSafe
  1. Identify the user - Every user of BloodTrack HemoSafe will have an identification code; usually a barcode attached to their identification badge. Simply put the badge under the scanner to log in.
  2. Choose In or Out - To remove units from the refrigerator, touch the "OUT" picture.
  3. Scan Patient Information - To identify the correct unit to dispense, the user must scan a request form (or Tx Pickup Slip) barcode containing a specific patient's information (the patient can also be selected from a list). HemoSafe then communicates with the Blood Establishment Computer System (BECS/LIS) to determine if any blood in the HemoSafe has been cross-matched for the patient, if so, HemoSafe will open the compartment containing that blood. If no cross-matched blood is available, HemoSafe will communicate with the BECS system to ensure an electronic cross-match has been performed then open a compartment with unallocated blood of the patient's blood group and print a transfusion tag.
  4. Confirm Blood Unit - The user will then be asked to scan the blood unit and the transfusion tag to ensure they have put the right label on the right blood bag. If there's a problem, the blood bank will be notified automatically and there will be audible and visual instructions on the screen for the user to follow.
  5. Log Out - To log out, just touch "DONE" on the screen. BloodTrack HemoSafe will log you out and wait for the next user.
BloodTrack HemoSafe Configuration
BloodTrack HemoSafe can operate in a number of different configurations. The most secure and effective is when it is interfaced to the BECS as shown in the diagram below:

Also available, HemoNine is a smaller 9 drawer locking fridge, perfect for Operating Rooms. Both HemoSafe and HemoNine units are fully integrated into the entire BloodTrack suite of products, so it is recommended that BloodTrack Tx be installed to print barcoded pick-up slips for secure blood removal and provide blood unit checking at the bedside.

Although not preferred, HemoSafe can also be configured to operate without an interface to the BECS.

The complete BloodTrack Suite is built using state-of-the-art development tools and technologies. It easily scales to work from the smallest hospital to the largest multiple site health care provider. The system includes a comprehensive series of reports, but each user can also directly connect to the Microsoft SQL Server database and develop their own custom reports and queries. In addition, BloodTrack exchanges information with the Blood Bank computer system in real time so that both systems have the most up-to-date information for each blood unit.
