Blood Management from the Blood Bank

Using BloodTrack Manager, the blood bank finally has real-time visibility into the location and status of each blood unit after it leaves the lab. This provides the Blood Bank with confidence that each blood unit has been properly handled, transported and stored and that each blood unit has been transfused to the correct patient in a timely fashion. It's as if each blood unit has never left the control of the Blood Bank.

Information is extremely valuable and BloodTrack Manager is the ultimate blood management reporting tool. Each event recorded in the audit includes the following information:

• The type of event (reserve stock, move in, transfuse, etc)
• The location of the event
• The device that was used (kiosk or PDA)
• The caregiver
• The blood unit
• The date and time
• The error generated by the event (transport time exceeded, patient mismatch, expired blood unit, etc)

Custom reports can then be created, including real-time refrigerator inventory, upcoming blood unit expiry, and the fate of blood units. This data allows administrators to analyse outcomes and provide more efficient service. When errors are detected during movement of blood units or transfusion of blood units, the Blood Bank is instantly alerted via both visual and audible means. This enables Blood Bank staff to investigate and resolve any potential problems (such as update the status of a unit) at the earliest opportunity in order to minimize potential consequences. The system also maintains a detailed audit trail of the Blood Bank staff member that viewed each error and the action that was taken to correct the problem. BloodTrack Manager extends the reach of the blood bank into the hospital by providing complete control over refrigerator and handheld configuration, user access, and blood unit status all from one application.
