Simpler Safer Health Care
BloodTrack® Tx
Transfusion Safety and Management System
The Tx application, used by nurses and phlebotomists at the patient's bedside, is
comprised of a number of different modules to ensure the patient is electronically
identified throughout the transfusion process.
Collection Module - Printing Specimen Labels
- At the Tx main menu, the caregiver selects the "Collect Samples" function.
- At the bedside, the caregiver scans their barcoded ID badge to give them access to the system.
- The caregiver scans the 2D barcoded patient wristband.
- The caregiver is reminded of the hospital SOPs regarding collection and can select the test to be performed (optional)
- The caregiver connects the mobile printer and prints the specimen tube labels. If printing is not done within 30 seconds, the caregiver is required to re-scan the patient's wristband to avoid sample mix-up. The label is also time-stamped with the exact time of collection.
Pickup Module - Retrieving the Right Blood
- At the Tx main menu, the caregiver selects the "Pickup" function.
- At the bedside, the caregiver scans their barcoded ID badge to give them access to the system.
- The caregiver scans the 2D barcoded patient wristband.
- The caregiver is reminded of the hospital SOPs regarding blood product pickup (optional) and selects from a list of blood products and quantities required for pick-up.
- The caregiver connects the mobile printer and prints a label indicating the blood to be picked up. The label also contains a 2D barcode which can be scanned at a BloodTrack Courier kiosk to ensure the right blood is removed.
Transfusion Module - Right Blood for the Right Patient
- At the Tx main menu, the caregiver selects the "Transfuse" function.
- At the bedside, the caregiver scans their barcoded ID badge to give them access to the system.
- The caregiver scans the 2D barcoded patient wristband.
- The caregiver scans the compatibility label (or transfusion tag) which electronically matches the patient information on the blood bag with the wristband.
- By next scanning the donation number, the caregiver ensures the right compatibility label was put on the right blood bag. BloodTrack Tx will warn the caregiver for any discrepancies.
- Then scanning the product code uniquely identifies the blood unit (optional).
- The caregiver can then electronically record the temperature, pulse, pressure and respiration of the patient.
- The event record can be printed for the patient's chart and/or uploaded electronically.
- After 15 minutes, the vitals and/or reactions can be recorded.
- At the end of the transfusion, the caregiver can record the volume transfused, any reactions and the exact fate of the unit.
- All transfusion transactions can be uploaded via wireless or cradle to the BloodTrack central database for analysis and reporting.
BloodTrack Tx is installed in over 15 hospitals in Europe and North America.
